Red Duchess: Kitty Atholl, a Rebel in Westminster & Margaret Bondfield: The Life and Times of Britain’s First Female Cabinet Minister
Amy Gray and Nan Sloane in conversation with Susanna Rustin
What united Kitty Atholl, a castle-dweller with her own highland regiment, and Margaret Bondfield, who grew up without plumbing and started out as a shopgirl on the Tottenham Court Road? The one an imperialist, anti-suffrage Scottish Unionist, the other a radical who paid court to Lenin, they rode a wave of social transformation that crashed over Britain in the first half of the twentieth century, becoming among the best-known politicians of their day.
It is our good fortune that both these remarkable women are the subject of penetrating new biographies - whose authors are in conversation with Susanna Rustin, a historian of British feminism.
